Fasht RasGas coral reefs now protected natural reserve

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) yesterday announced the implementation of a number of necessary measures to include a new group of coral reefs, 'Fasht RasGas' under Qatar's protected Natural Reserve.
The Ministry said this step aims at ensuring the project's success and the conservation of the marine ecosystems and marine biodiversity in Qatar.

Vehicle fuel efficiency labels must, dealers told

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has urged all vehicle agents and dealers across Qatar to post fuel efficiency labels on 2017 models onwards.
“The label determines the vehicle’s fuel efficiency based on fuel economy measures,” the MEC explained in a statement yesterday.
The fuel economy of a vehicle is the distance travelled per unit volume of fuel consumed (i.e., the distance travelled in kilometres per one litre of fuel consumed).

Bangladesh’s minister for trade said March 6 that Qatar is interested in setting up a land-based LNG terminal in the country, according to Dhaka Tribune.

QU gets £400,000 UK research grant in renewable energy

Qatar University (QU) has been awarded jointly with the University of Newcastle a £400,000 research grant in the area of renewable energy, it was announced yesterday.
This is one of the eight cutting edge projects across the six Gulf countries with £2.8mn in UK government funding allocated for research in areas ranging from nanotechnology to cyber-security.
“The UK is a word-leader on science and innovation and wants to see its collaboration with Qatar in this important area grow,” British ambassador Ajay Sharma said yesterday in a statement in Doha.
Petrol and diesel prices to go up from tomorrow

Prices of fuels including that of diesel will go up in Qatar from tomorrow, the Ministry of Energy and Industry announced yesterday.
The 91-octane Premium gasoline will cost QR1.60 (QR1.55/litre now) and 95 Super QR1.70 (QR1.65 now) in March, the ministry said.
Diesel will go up to QR1.55 a litre from QR1.50.
Fuel prices in Qatar were allowed to fluctuate in response to changes in the global market from May 1, 2016.

Qatar University to capture and recycle organic gas

Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) to establish collaboration on the exchange of information and consultancy on the recent techniques to capture the organic gas released from waste and recycle it into an organic fuel for dual-fuel vehicles.

Qatar's QVC integrated with Qapco

Qatar Petroleum (QP) today announced a plan to integrate the activities of Qatar Vinyl Company (QVC), which is part of Mesaieed Petrochemical, into Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco), which is part of Industries Qatar, through a service agreement arrangement.
The result will be a single company, Qapco, operating the facilities of both companies.
Both Mesaieed Petrochemical and Industries Qatar are listed on Qatar Stock Exchange.
